A special moment for “The Unknown”
The Unknown by Missy is an original watercolor painting inspired by the quiet beauty and gentle presence of a sea turtle. Watercolor gives me room to build an image slowly, layer by layer. I love the way transparent washes can create movement, softness, and depth while still leaving space for the paper to breathe.
A sea turtle carries so much feeling in its presence. It suggests patience, calm, resilience, and a steady journey forward. Those qualities stayed with me while I painted this piece.
Now, seeing The Unknown featured front-and-center in a local exhibition feels like a wonderful continuation of that journey. A painting that began with paper, pigment, and a personal moment of inspiration will now be seen by visitors in a gallery setting.
That physical experience matters to me. A digital image can share the colors and details, but standing in front of an original painting lets you notice the brushwork, the texture, and the small choices that make the piece feel alive. Why seeing original art in person feels different
Original art has a physical presence that reproductions cannot completely replace.
When you view an original watercolor, you can often see the variation in the paint. Some areas may be soft and transparent, while others hold richer color. You can notice the edges of the brushstrokes, the rhythm of the composition, and the way the artist guided the eye across the page.
That is one reason I enjoy creating animal art prints and fine art prints from my original paintings. Prints make artwork easier to bring home, collect, and give as a gift. But the original painting remains the beginning of everything.
